09-15-04 : Hawks Passes The
Tradition On . . . . .
Hawks International Incorporated hosted their first
seminar instructing tomorrows Mas producers. The
seminar appropriately named " Passing On The Tradition" took place over eight weeks during the summer months
of July - August. The seminar was instructed by
Master
Mas maker Neville Martian, who has his share of accolades
and a resume that spans over thirty years in costume design.
The youths were lectured on the history of Carnival, the
theory behind the portrayals and lastly instruction from
conception state to full production.
This years group of
youth participated in the West Indian's Labor Day Parade
celebration with their " self manufactured "
costumes contributed to a first place position for Hawks in
the Junior Carnival competition. The program was
supported in part by Brooklyn Arts Council.
