Passing on the tradition is a project design to help our
children learn about their cultural heritage. With arts and
music being cut from the educational curriculum coupled with
absence of truly diverse arts & craft in the educational
system, Hawks International intends to fill that void with
Passing on the Tradition. The program also serves as a
bridge to our kids so that common traditions are not lost
such as costume making for carnival. Thus we
have embarked
on this mission in 2004 where we will host workshops for our
children. Youths passing through this program will walk away
with the following:
History of Carnival
Artistic Concepts of Carnival - Carnival Drawing /
Wire Bending
Costume Designs and Manufacturing
Following the end of the workshop, kids will be invited
to stay with our MAS makers during the carnival season as
apprentice, furthering their skills in this art form. Also
the kids will be invited to display their costumes in the
Hawks International Kiddies Band on Labor Day sponsored by
Hawks International Inc. Help Hawks International to keep
our culture thriving by donating to our plight. All
donations are tax deductible.
Eligibility : any youth between ages 7 - 12
Program Duration : May - June
Workshop Hours : Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm
