The
vision for Hawks International is simple and can be summed
up in a few words :
Empowerment
: Improving the economic and
social conditions of our community. All to often
individuals may have the desire to achieve
"greatness", however, many are not equipped with the
necessary enabling social and economic tools to be proficient
in achieving their goals. The question one may ask is
how do you go about obtaining these tools? Given the
evolution of any community sometimes overnight this can appear
to be an elusive target. The members of Hawks
International along with me are constantly searching for
enabling tools to assist in this feat and thus we view Hawks
International as facilitators. Thus the birth of the
Hawks International Resource Center.
Preservation
: To insure that our culture
and history as a people are not diluted such that we
assimilate and have no identity. There are several ways
that this can be addressed. The most fundamental way is
passing on our rich heritage to our youth. Hence the
birth of our "Passing On
The Tradition". You
cannot know where you are going if you are not aware of where
you are from.
Future
: Laying the foundation for
future generations is the very essence of Hawks International
which has allowed the organization to transcend the first
generations of West Indians that migrated to the United States
back in the 1950's and 1960's. Hawks International will
continue to morph itself so as to not be out of
"phase" with the times of our generation. It
is our goal to insure and sustain the existence of Hawks
International to transcend future generations.
Hawks International continues to thrive as an organization for
close to 40 years, by being aware of what our successes and
mistakes in past has allowed us to continue to evolve.
it is my intent for Hawks International to continue to serve
as a beacon of the aforementioned for our community. It
is only hoped that our actions motivate others not to be
complacent.
